Missiles and torpedoes are projectile weapons which are used by ships equipped with missile launchers or torpedo launchers in its weapon slots. Once fired, these projectiles will tyrack in on their target. They are self guided, so once fired they will continue to run until they either hit the target or run out of fuel. Missiles tend to be more agile and can turn more tightly than torpedoes. The amount of damage these weapons deal to opponents depends on the level of the missile or torpedo launcher which launched them.

Of the nuclear missiles and nuclear torpedoes, the nuclear torpedoes are more easily obtained as they can be purchased with merits in the item store. Nuclear missiles can only be obtained in special circumstances, as noted below.

It should be noted, missiles can only be fired by missile launchers, and torpedoes can only be fired by torpedo launchers.

Missiles[]

Missiles are weapons that are self-propelled and self guided, carrying conventional or nuclear explosives. They are fired by ships using missile launchers. There are 4 different sizes of missiles:

  1. Light: These missiles can only be used by light missile launchers (i.e. missile launchers which can be equipped by strike craft);
  2. Medium: These missiles can only be used by medium missile launchers (i.e. missile launcherds which can be equipped by escorts);
  3. Heavy: These missiles can only be used by heavy missile launchers (i.e. missile launcherds which can be equipped by lines); and
  4. XL: These missiles can only be used by XL missile launchers (i.e. missile launcherds which can be equipped by Capital class ships).

HE Warhead Missile Icon Light HE Warhead Missile Mini Tylium Icon 35 tylium The standard payload for both Colonial and Cylon missile systems, high explosive warheads contain an explosive charge that triggers when the missile comes within range of the target, throwing a cloud of high-velocity casing fragments that can cause extensive damage. Allows use of light missile attacks.
CR Warhead Missile Icon Light CR Warhead Missile Mini Cubit Icon 15 cubits and Mini Tylium Icon 35 tylium An improved version of the standard HE payload, continuous rod warheads contain an explosive charge wrapped in a cylinder of hardened bars welded together at each end. When the charge detonates, the bars are thrown out into a 'zigzag' ring that slices into the target's hull. Allows use of light missile attacks with a +15% damage bonus.
EFP Warhead Missile Icon Light EFP Warhead Missile Mini Cubit Icon 30 cubits Based on an advancement of shape charge technology, explosively formed penetrator warheads focus their detonation against a tantalum disk, deforming into a dense 'slug' of hyper-velocity metal that slams into the target with massive force and can rip through the thickest armour. Allows use of light missile attacks with a +30% damage bonus.
Nuclear Missile Icon Class-D2 Nuclear Warhead Special The most destructive weapons in the arsenals of the Colonial and Cylon fleets, the devastating power of nuclear warheads is matched only by the expense of producing them. This light tactical version is the smallest nuclear warhead in general use, but is still capable of crippling larger ship or destroying strike craft outright. Allows use of light missile attacks with 20x normal damage.

Special = These items are only obtainable from two known places: (1) As rewards from Dradis Interdiction Missions; and (2) As part of bonus packs for purchasing cubits.

Torpedoes[]

Torpedoes are self propelled projectile weapons which, once launched are also self guiding. They only carry nuclear explosives. Due to their nature, they have a longer minimum range than missiles as when they detonate they can damage any and all ships (friendly or enemy) within the explosions range. They also cause energy loss to shipos they damage due to the EMP from the blast. Torpedoes are slower and also turn more slowly than missiles. They can only be launched from nuclear torpedo launchers.
