Ammunition are the rounds or bullets used by Colonial and Cylon players in the cannons of their various ships. There are 4 distinct categories of ammunition:
Light Cannon Rounds - These are only useable in cannons equipped by strikes;
Medium Cannon Rounds - These are only useable in cannons equipped by escorts;
Heavy Cannon Rounds - These are only useable in cannons equipped by lines; and
Extra Large Cannon Rounds - These are only useable in cannons equipped by capital class ships.
Each category has a number of sub-types which may give bonuses in combat (e.g. extra damage, increased probability to hit an opponent).
Light Cannon Rounds are the bullets which are useable by light auto cannons. Light auto cannons are only useable by strike ships. As light cannons are the smallest in the game, light cannon rounds are the cheapest to purchase.
