Guys whilst doing a bit of work on the wiki, I noticed that Pawn0 o has been working on a new Colonial Ship Info box. I noticed it when I visited the pages for the Viper Mark II and the Viper Mark III. Now the design does not look bad. In fact it looks very good.
However, what I was not impressed by was finding that on both pages, the images for the respective ships systems slots has not been put into the new info boxes. Please ensure if new info boxes are deployed that all the info that was in the "old" info box is placed into the new one please.
As to the Info Box template itself, I did some editing to it. Firstly, one of the fields was incorrect. It was labelled "Interia Compensation" and not "Inertial Compensation". As my job involves accuracy and attention to details (I do a lot of proof reading) it kind of leapt off the page at me. Hence my first edit.
However I also removed the following fields from the template:
- Size;
- 20% Discount Cost;
- Upgrade Cost; and
- Upgrade Discount Cost.
In my opinion these fields are not needed and I'll explain why.
In relation to "Size" we already indicate what class each ship is (e.g. strike, escort) and the category pages for each type has a description which should give people an indication of that ship's size. As such I don't think it useful. Maybe what we nbeed to do is in the Class" field we need to link it to the relevant category page like we do with the "Role" field.
The "20% Discount Cost" and "Upgrade Discount Cost" ones are un-necessary as ship sales happen at best once a month. I just think it is not worth it.
The "Upgrade Cost" one is the one I have the strongest opinions against. On the page for each ship it is written on the last line before the "In-game Description" whether the ship can be advanced and has a link for people to the Advanced Ship type page. On the Advanced page is the cost for acquiring the Advanced Ship. If you also put it on the page for the un-advanced ship, it can lead some people to think you have to pay that amount twice over to get the Advanced version. That was the opinion of a mate of mine who does not play the game when I showed it to him and asked his opinion - he felt it just was a bit confusing. Hence why I am dead against this field being in the Info Box.
You may disagree. Hey you may be able to persuade me. However I thought I owed you an explanation as to why I changed the template.
